Emergency Glazing
If you need urgent glazing replacement due to broken, cracked, or shattered glass, call Preston Glass and Glazing for a rapid response. In most cases we are able to replace the glass within the day, or can order for quick delivery. Our process involves:
1. Safety Assessment & Secure the Area
- The glazier will inspect the damage and assess if a temporary repair or full replacement is required.
- If there are sharp or loose glass pieces, they will carefully remove them to prevent injury.
- The area may be cordoned off to ensure safety.
2. Temporary Boarding (If Needed)
- If the correct glass is not immediately available, the window will be boarded up using plywood or safety panels.
- This provides security and weatherproofing until the permanent glass is installed.
- For shopfronts or large windows, safety film may be applied as an alternative to full boarding.
3. Measuring & Ordering Replacement Glass
- If a like-for-like replacement is not available on-site, the glazier will take exact measurements and order the required double glazing unit or safety glass.
- Some emergency glazing companies have on-the-spot cutting for single-pane glass but may require 24–72 hours for custom double-glazing units.
4. Glass Replacement & Sealing
- Once the correct glass is available, the glazier will remove the temporary board and install the new glazing.
- The window is secured with sealants, putty, or glazing beads, ensuring a weatherproof and airtight finish.
5. Final Checks & Clean-Up
- We will inspect the installation for alignment and insulation.
- Here at Preston Glass and Glazing our clear-up and boarding service means that we can clear up the mess associated with broken glass and provide a fully secure interim solution to protect your assets.
Types of Glass for Emergency Replacement
Depending on the location and purpose of the window, emergency glaziers may replace your glass with:
- Toughened or tempered glass – Safer and stronger for homes and businesses.
- Laminated glass – Prevents shattering, ideal for shopfronts.
- Standard float glass – A quick temporary solution.
- Double-glazed sealed units – For energy efficiency but may require special ordering.
Our prices are competitive, and we pride ourselves on doing the very best job for our customers.
